Anyone can write "strict quality control". What a buyer actually needs is the tolerance a mill will sign against, the instrument used to check it, and the test report that arrives with the container. All three are on this page.
These are the figures we quote against for 8011-O household and catering rolls. Where your market requires tighter, we say so before the order rather than after.
| Parameter | Standard | Tighter option | Check method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thickness | ±3% of nominal | ±2% on request | Online gauge + hand micrometer, 5 points across width |
| Slit width | ±1.0 mm | ±0.5 mm | Steel rule and calliper at three positions |
| Roll length | +2% / −0% | ±0.5% | Length counter, cross-checked by gross weight |
| Core inner diameter | 38 ±0.5 mm / 76 ±0.5 mm | — | Plug gauge |
| Core protrusion | 0 to +2 mm each side | Flush | Visual and calliper |
| Camber (edge straightness) | ≤3 mm per 3 m | ≤1.5 mm per 3 m | Straight edge on a 3 m table |
| Telescoping | None visible | None visible | Visual, all rolls |
| Pinholes (10–12 μm) | Per agreed limit, counted per m² | Lower limit on request | Backlit inspection table |
| Surface | No oil staining, no rolled-in debris, no dents | — | Visual under 45° light |
Tolerances above are our standard commercial offer for household and catering rolls. Industrial double-rolled foil, jumbo rolls and converter stock are quoted against separate limits — ask if you need them in writing for a tender.
Continuous gauge at the mill plus a five-point hand check on the finished roll. Recorded per slit roll, not per batch.
Backlit table for household gauges. Counted per square metre against the limit agreed in your purchase order.
Tensile and elongation on the mother coil. Matters for catering rolls, where a low-elongation coil tears at the dispenser.
Third-party lab, per market: overall and specific migration, heavy metals, formaldehyde. Report valid for the lot tested.
Food-contact rules are not global. A container that clears Jeddah without a question can be held in Hamburg for a missing declaration of compliance. Below is what we prepare for each destination — tell us where it is going and the pack follows that route.
Facility certificates (ISO 22000, BRCGS) and product test reports are two different things. Buyers regularly ask for one and receive the other. We send both, labelled.
Certification requirements change. Confirm the current list with your customs broker before the order — we will match it, but we will not guess on your behalf.
Most complaints on a foil container are not about alloy. They are about packing, moisture and handling. Here is what we do about each.
| What goes wrong | What the buyer sees | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Telescoping | Inner layers slide out, roll will not sit in the dispenser | Winding tension set per gauge; rolls nested and braced in the carton, not loose |
| Core crush | Oval core, roll wobbles on the spindle | Heavier core board on 76 mm catering rolls; cartons stacked to a stated limit only |
| Moisture staining | White or dark spots on the foil surface | Poly-lined cartons, desiccant in humid-season shipments, container floor dunnage |
| Edge damage | Torn or burred edge, foil catches when pulled | Slitter knives changed on a schedule; edge protected by the box geometry |
| Print misregistration | Colours offset on the dispenser box | Digital proof signed off before the run; first-off samples photographed and sent |
| Short length | Roll runs out before the stated metres | Length counter calibrated; positive tolerance only (+2% / −0%) |
Send your destination and product use. We will reply with the specification sheet, the compliance list that applies, and the tolerance table we will sign against.
